Immersive Experience Audio Design

In 2020, I was the sound designer for an immersive live-action experience set aboard an abandoned spaceship. The project required creating an atmospheric soundscape that would enhance the eerie, otherworldly environment and immerse participants in the storyline.

The Process:

Sound Design and Conceptualisation – I began by conceptualising the key audio elements that would bring the abandoned spaceship setting to life. Focusing on ambient noises, such as the hum of malfunctioning machinery and distant echoes, I aimed to evoke a sense of isolation and suspense. Each track was designed to support the narrative while intensifying the immersive experience.

Track Creation and Audio Engineering – Once the core sound design was established, I composed and engineered individual tracks to match key moments in the experience. From subtle background ambience to sudden, sharp audio cues, I ensured that the sound design would heighten tension and keep participants on edge throughout the journey.

Collaboration with the Creative Team – Working closely with the directors and other creatives, I tailored the soundscape to align with the pacing of the experience. This collaborative effort allowed us to fine-tune the audio elements to enhance the atmosphere and keep participants fully engaged in the storyline.

Outcome: The sound design played a pivotal role in immersing participants in the abandoned spaceship environment. The carefully crafted audio elements successfully enhanced the overall tension and drama, contributing to the immersive nature of the live-action experience.
